Confidentiality

All information and materials supplied by the Client to Elemental Book Covers are considered confidential and will not be shared with any third party or outside sources.

Overview of book cover design services

For the ebook design service, the fee includes the design of one ebook cover, to be delivered to you as a high-resolution JPEG file. This also includes a 3D image of your book for marketing purposes.
For the print design service, the fee includes the design of a print book cover, which is comprised of the front, back, and spine of the book, to be delivered to you as a high-resolution PDF in CMYK color. The print design service also includes an ebook cover as a high-resolution JPEG file and a 3D image of your book for marketing purposes.
A booking fee of $50 of the total design cost (book cover design cost + any add-on services) is required up front before any design work can begin. You will receive an invoice from PayPal.
The fee for the design service includes the purchase of licensed stock photos for use in the design. If the Client requests a specific image, an additional fee may apply.
You agree to the terms of the license for all stock photos used in your cover design. Photos used in the cover are royalty-free, but the photographer retains the copyright to the photo.

The book cover design process

After I have collected all needed information from you and received the booking fee, the design phase begins. I will design 1-3 drafts of initial concepts based on your design brief, and I will send these drafts to you for your review within 14 days.

You select which draft you want to proceed with. I will make revisions to this draft, within reason, until you are satisfied. Reasonable changes include changes to font, color, and repositioning elements. Up to 5 rounds of revision are allowed.

Once the ebook design is finalized, I will begin work on the print cover if you have selected this service. I will require the following information from you to complete the print book cover:

Desired trim size
Page count
Paper color (cream or white)
Where you are publishing (Amazon, IngramSpark, etc.)
Text and any images you want on the back cover
In some cases, I will also need your ISBN

The final print design image I send you will be a print-ready, 300dpi PDF in CMYK designed to fit the template for your publisher.

It is your responsibility to send this file to your printer, and to obtain a printed proof.

Your final approval

When all design work is complete, and you have approved the final design(s), I will send you a final invoice for all remaining fees owed. Once the final invoice is paid, I will send you the completed ebook cover as a high-resolution JPEG; the completed print-ready print cover as a CMYK PDF (if you have ordered one); the 3D mockup of your book cover; and the files for any add-ons you have ordered, such as a web banner or audiobook design.

Once the final ebook and/or print designs have been approved by you, the sale is considered final, and this contract will be considered fulfilled, and therefore terminated.

Client responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the Client to proof all book cover designs and other images provided by Elemental Book Covers for errors.

Premade book covers

Purchasing a premade book cover design means that you buy the cover as-is, with changes to text only. Changes to a premade cover are limited to: changes to title, author name, and the addition of text.

Payment for premade covers is to be paid in full up front. Once payment is received, I will then make the requested modifications to the cover, if the Client knows at the time what those modifications are. I will then deliver the cover to the Client. Any future changes, such as modifications to the title, should be arranged by contacting me at my email address, contact@elementalbookcovers.com. All sales of premade book covers are final.

Refund or cancellation

If for whatever reason you would like to cancel your project, you may do so for a full refund of any fees paid minus the $50 booking fee, given that you have not yet approved the final design. Your approval of the final design confirms your satisfaction with the design service. All drafts and designs in your possession remain the property of Elemental Book Covers and must not be used in any way. Elemental Book Covers also reserves the right to cancel the project at any time.

If you have failed to communicate with Elemental Book Covers for 60 days, any refunds will be at my discretion.

Rights

Once the final payment has been received, Elemental Book Covers grants you exclusive license to use the cover design for your published ebook and print book cover and/or all promotional purposes.

Elemental Book Covers retains the right to use the Client’s name, title, and book cover design for displaying in Elemental’s portfolio or on social media websites such as Facebook for promotional purposes.

Elemental Book Covers retains the copyright and ownership of all design and draft materials.

The final design may not be altered in any way, other than to be resized. If you wish to make any alterations to your final cover design, please contact me. This may incur an additional cost.

Attribution

I request a cover design credit to be placed in the Client’s book, digial and print, as such: “Cover Design by Elemental Book Covers”. Include a link to www.elementalbookcovers.com when possible.
